VanVed vs Slack
for Announcements
Why businesses choose VanVed over Slack
Slack cannot tell you who has read anything — it has no read receipts at all — while VanVed records it per person and reports the count against the real targeted audience, so an admin can see a policy notice is at 40 of 120. Pinning and expiry keep it visible instead of letting it scroll away, and the audience is derived from the HR record rather than from who happened to be added to a channel.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | Slack |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Included | $7.25/user/mo Pro or $15 Business+ annual; the free tier limits history |
| Knowing who read it | Read tracked per user, reported as a count against the targeted audience | No read receipts or delivery insight of any kind |
| Message survives the scroll | Pinned announcements stay at the top and expire on a date you choose | A channel post scrolls away; free-plan history is capped |
| Targeting without maintaining a list | Department and branch are read from the employee record | Depends on who has been added to the channel |
| Reaching people who are not at a desk | Publishing raises an in-app notification for the targeted audience, and an email for anyone who has email notifications on — but no push, and no announcements screen in the mobile app | Mobile push to everyone in the channel |
| Discussion on a post | No comments, no reactions | Threads and emoji reactions |
| Scheduling | Enforced — a future-dated post stays hidden until its time, though nobody is notified at the moment it appears | Scheduled send |
| Attachments and rich content | Plain title and body only — no files, no images | Files, images, snippets and rich formatting |
Where Slack is ahead of us today
Slack actually reaches people. A VanVed announcement now notifies its audience in-app on publish, and emails anyone who has that switched on — but there is no push and no mobile screen, and a post scheduled for later notifies nobody when it appears, so the read count is still partly a measure of who opens the app. There are no comments or reactions, and no attachments or images.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, Slack may well be the better buy.
