VanVed vs Intercom Fin
for AI Lab
Why businesses choose VanVed over Intercom Fin
The old claim that the AI module is disconnected from everything else is out of date — the same gateway now backs drafting in CRM, contracts, catalog, announcements, a helpdesk agent's reply and résumé parsing in recruitment, and it is the platform's one AI path rather than six separate integrations. It runs on your own provider key with no per-resolution meter, so drafting a hundred emails costs what the model costs, not $0.99 a time. And when no key is set it returns a 503 instead of a fabricated answer.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | Intercom Fin |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | You bring your own model key; cost is whatever the provider bills, with a 20-calls-per-hour cap per user | $0.99 per outcome with a 50-outcome monthly minimum — and a handoff to a human bills too; helpdesk seats from $29 on top |
| Where AI shows up in the product | Drafting inside CRM, contracts, catalog, announcements, helpdesk replies and recruitment résumé parsing — not a lab in isolation any more | Customer-facing resolution across chat, email, WhatsApp and voice |
| Answering customers autonomously | Nothing customer-facing — no bot, and the helpdesk does not call AI at all | Resolves conversations end to end in 45+ languages and hands off to a human when it cannot |
| Grounding in your own content | No retrieval — prompts are built from what the user typed, never from the org's own knowledge base or records | Ingests help centre articles, PDFs, URLs and snippets, and cites its sources |
| Taking actions | Generates text only — no tool calling, and nothing is ever published or saved automatically | Calls APIs and runs workflows to actually complete a task |
| Honesty when unconfigured | Returns a real 503 rather than inventing text — the earlier fake-response stub was deliberately removed | Not applicable — it is a hosted service |
| Usage and cost visibility | Nothing is stored — no prompt log, no token accounting, no per-tenant usage view | Fin Insights reports resolution rate and spend |
| Per-tenant control of the model | One platform-wide key and model; a tenant cannot supply its own or pick a different one | Managed by Intercom; no key to bring |
Where Intercom Fin is ahead of us today
Fin is an autonomous support agent and this is a text generator. There is no retrieval over your own content, so nothing it writes is grounded in your knowledge base or your records; it cannot call a tool or complete a task; and there is nothing customer-facing at all — the helpdesk does now draft an agent's reply, but from a single message, with no knowledge-base grounding and nothing a customer ever sees. Nothing is logged either, so no tenant can see what AI has been used for or what it cost.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, Intercom Fin may well be the better buy.
