VanVed vs greytHR
for Payroll
Why businesses choose VanVed over greytHR
Payroll here is not a separate product bolted to an HR system: attendance, the roster's overtime, approved leave and leave encashment all feed the same run, and the run mirrors itself into the finance ledger without a connector. Leave encashment in particular is better built than most — you preview the amount, and the rate is frozen at the moment it is paid so a later salary revision can never reprice a past encashment. Every module is a switch a tenant turns on, so a customer who only wants payroll is not made to buy an HR suite.
Capability by capability
Every row below is what our 2026 research found — including the rows we lose.
| Capability | VanVed | greytHR |
|---|---|---|
| PF & ESI deduction | Computed, with rates and ceilings configurable per tenant — but taken on the full gross, because the per-component "part of PF wage" flags are stored and never read | Computed on the correct wage base, with ECR and ESI challans |
| PF ECR / ESI return files | CSV summaries only — not the EPFO ECR upload file | Ready-to-upload ECR, ESI challans, LWF |
| Professional Tax by state | Slab table per state — but every tenant types its own slabs in | State rules built in and maintained for you |
| TDS, IT declarations, Form 16, Form 24Q | TDS is a number an admin types onto the payslip. No declarations, no proof-of-investment, no Form 16, no 24Q | Full TDS engine, declarations with proof upload, digitally signed Form 16 and 12BA, one-click 24Q with FVU validation |
| Payslip PDF | Yes — every earning and deduction by name, PF/ESI/PT/TDS split out, employer contributions disclosed separately | Yes, plus self-service and email delivery |
| Loss of pay for unpaid absence | Not applied to monthly-salaried staff — proration is hard-wired to 1 for the default pay basis | LOP days drive the monthly salary |
| Loans, advances, arrears, full-and-final | None of the four exist | All four, with EMI recovery and F&F settlement |
| Leave encashment | Yes — previewed before you commit, priced and frozen at encashment, posted to both the payroll run and the leave ledger | Yes, as part of settlement |
| Bank disbursement file | Generic name / account / IFSC / amount CSV | Electronic transfer formats for major banks, plus ICICI connected banking |
Where greytHR is ahead of us today
greytHR is a statutory-filing product and VanVed is not. VanVed can compute PF, ESI and PT and produce a genuinely good payslip PDF — but it cannot file anything. TDS is a number typed in by hand; there is no investment declaration, no Form 16, no 24Q, and the PF and ESI exports are readable summaries rather than the files the portals accept. PF is also taken on the full gross rather than on basic and DA, which is the wrong base for Indian PF. Loans, advances, arrears and full-and-final settlement do not exist at all, and a monthly-salaried employee who is absent without leave is still paid in full.
We publish this because a comparison that only flatters us is worth nothing to you. If one of these gaps is the thing you actually need, greytHR may well be the better buy.
